Attorney Featured in Better Magazine on The Rise of Fraud and Cybercrime.

Galen Cheney (Associate) was featured in the article, “Scammers Stole $130K in Minutes- How One Family Fought a Major Bank to Get it Back,” published by Better Magazine, addressing the increase of cybercrime and how individuals must be vigilant and advocate for themselves in order to retrieve stolen funds from scammers.

This article focuses on the Carleo Family, a group victimized by a scammer that gained access to their bank accounts and was able to wire tens of thousands of dollars out to separate banks. The Carleo’s bank only initially reimbursed about 30% of what was stolen, and thus began an uphill battle to retrieve the entirely of their missing funds.

“This area of law is evolving and changing pretty rapidly, and courts are seeing many, many cases of people losing their entire life savings. Courts are looking for ways to hold financial institutions accountable,” said Cheney. “Be very shrewd, advocate for yourself.”
