Kronenberger Rosenfeld Heads to SXSW 2026: Shaping the Future of Tech Law

Kronenberger Rosenfeld, LLP will be attending South by Southwest (SXSW) 2026 in Austin, Texas from March 12-18. As pioneers in internet, copyright, privacy, and emerging technology matters, our team looks forward to immersing in this premier event that blends new insights into music, film, and innovation.

What We’re Looking Forward To

Staff to attend the event will include Andrew Keys (Associate), Katy Hull (Director of Marketing), and Halie Lear (Associate Director of Marketing). Here are some sessions we are looking forward to attending:

Andrew Keyes (Associate)
Session: Does Music Need So Much Copyright Law?

For top minds of music and copyright law, plunging deep into a foundational question – how restrictive should copyright law be? Should we have copyright law at all? (This copyright lawyer says yes, but perhaps I am biased). Copyright law has historically been a reliably nonpartisan policy issue, but with the Trump administration recently intervening to fire the Register of Copyrights when she issued an advisory opinion unfavorable to AI companies, copyright law issues are suddenly much more charged than they have been in decades.

Screening: I Love Boosters (Directed by Boots Riley

Sorry Katy for stealing your pick, but I too am very excited to see Boots’ sophomore feature.

Music Showcase: Sun Room (Antone’s, March 15th); Chuck Prophet & His Cumbia Shoes (Lambert’s, March 17th)

I discovered Sun Room by furiously browsing the SXSW directory, and I am already smitten by their delightfully raw take on classic surf rock. It’s like the Strokes by way of the Ventures, in the best way possible. I also will be checking out Chuck Prophet as he takes his new cumbia project out for a spin. I have been following him for quite a while, and this new musical direction is a delightful left turn for him.

Wild Card: Friends, Classmates, Colleagues, etc.

The joy of SXSW is the serendipity of making new connections and reconnecting with old friends. Between my NYU music business program, my early stints at record labels and music publishers, and my entertainment law studies in Los Angeles, I am sure I will see a lot of familiar faces in Austin!

Katy Hull (Director of Marketing)
Session: How CMOs are Rewriting the Rules of Connection

With the firm always keeping up with the latest technology and AI trends, as well as expanding our scope to AI Compliance and AI Harm, it’s important as Director of Marketing to see how AI is affecting my department as well. Being able to hear insights from the CMOs of Lyft, Axios, and Samsung on AI learning from a marketing perspective will help deepen my understanding into our own responsible practices.

Screening: I Love Boosters (Directed by Boots Riley)

As someone who had Sorry to Bother You (2018) on my Letterboxd top four for years, I am beyond ecstatic to see Riley’s next film. Riley’s ability to break down complex social concepts and interpersonal relationships in a visually compelling way has always stuck with me. Based on the trailer alone, I know I am in for a treat with I Love Boosters. Also being able to attend the world premiere of a film by a director and cast that I deeply admire expands the excitement. With video production being a primary focus in my role, I look forward to seeing the story-telling techniques and imagery Riley uses to enhance his thesis of the film.

Music Showcase: Better Joy

Did I know Better Joy existed before being announced at SXSW? Nope. But that is what SXSW is all about. Having the ability to see new artists in unique venues can create a deep connection with music I wouldn’t have access to anywhere else. Better Joy’s passionate and vulnerable lyrics heavily remind me of Phoebe Bridgers, so I think I am in for a great time. With Kronenberger Rosenfeld expanding our focus on Music Law, I believe it is important as a marketer to stay up to date with the latest music industry updates, which include exploring new artists.

Wild Card: How to Not Be Cringey On Camera: Media Insider Secrets

If anything, I need this training more than anyone. Part of my role at the firm focuses on video production, so I’m hoping this session will better prepare me for future projects and finding ways to create ease and comfort on set. I love sharing the work of the attorneys and their respective practice areas, so I’d love to learn new directing and producing tactics to show the most genuine sides of our team and how deeply we advocate for our clients and our work.

Halie Lear (Associate Director of Marketing)
Session: Is Searched Totally F**ked? What do We Do Now?

Search has been pivotal to functioning in this world since the early 2000s – the world Google (verb; to use google search engine to obtain information on the internet) was even added to the dictionary in 2006. Now with the rise of generative engines and AI, the landscape of online search has changed dramatically. Although our team has a grasp on current GEO practices, I look forward to learning about strategies to maintain website visibility for years to come.

Screening/Podcast: On with Kara Swisher Live

The world is constantly changing, but Kara Swisher seems to have her finger on the pulse across industries affecting our everyday lives, and especially the way we work. As an award-winning journalist, she tells it straight and always has interesting takes on current events impacting technology, media, and the future.

Music Showcase: Sips & Sounds (Saturday) – Calvin Harris, Foster The People, Mallrat

Although there are plenty of opportunities for me to see new bands and expand my music taste here at SXSW 2026, I’m still drawn to a few of my favorites. Sometimes you just need a good sing-along with the artists you’ve loved for years in a crowd of thousands of other equally ecstatic fans.

Wild Card: Corporate Dark Arts: The Real Rules of Marketing Power

Is that a Harry Potter reference? This session promises to spill the executive tea - over 60 anonymous confessions from marketing leaders across the globe. As a Millennial who loves a bit of gossip, I’m definitely looking forward to learning about how these marketers honed their “under-the-radar corporate superpowers” using “ambiguity as leverage and tension as traction.” Sounds like Slytherin behavior to me.
