Liana Chen Named Partner of the Firm

Liana counsels and defends e-commerce and other businesses on intellectual property and internet issues, particularly with respect to online marketing and advertising, social media, technology, affiliate advertising, lead generation, nutraceutical, and e-marketplace industries. As a leading voice on required online marketing disclosures and consumer contracts, Liana routinely guides clients on regulatory compliance and negotiates and drafts internet-related agreements. Liana’s clients include online merchants and platforms, supplement and functional food manufacturers and retailers, communications providers, software developers, and internet advertising companies.
Liana has significant experience defending businesses and individuals in FTC investigative and enforcement actions and other government proceedings. Likewise, as part of her advisory work, Liana helps clients navigate the FTC Act and other state and federal consumer protection laws in connection with advertising and commerce on the internet. Liana’s areas of focus include the TCPA, the ADA, anti-SPAM regulations, and laws governing sweepstakes, promotions, and subscription programs. Liana also advises companies on state and federal privacy laws, including the CCPA, and issues involving cyber security, data breaches, and unauthorized access to computers and systems.
With respect to Liana’s litigation practice, Liana represents both plaintiffs and defendants in a wide array of complex commercial disputes involving internet and technology laws. Liana routinely defends clients in consumer class actions and private lawsuits. Liana also advocates for victims of cyber harassment, anonymous defamation, and fraud. With extensive experience in pre-litigation and litigation matters spanning state and federal courts on both sides of the country, from case initiation to mediation, trial, and appeal, Liana has secured numerous case victories, including through motions and settlement.
Liana obtained her J.D., with high honors, from The George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C., where she was on the Moot Court and Mock Trial Boards and The George Washington Law Review. In 2010, Liana won the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court competition in the Czech Republic. She currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Barrister's Litigation Section of the Bar Association of San Francisco.
